Trump came out at an Iowa event Thursday and said he wants to put together a UFC event for 25,000 people on the White House lawn as part of America’s 250-year anniversary celebrations in 2026.

‘We’re gonna have a UFC fight, think of this, on the grounds of the White House,’ Trump said. ‘We have a lot of land there. We’re not going to build a little, we’re not, Dana (White, UFC CEO) is going to do it, a UFC fight, championship fight, full fight. We ‘re going to have some incredible events, some professional events, some amateur events, but the UFC fight is going to be a big deal.’

McGregor’s Political Aspirations

No official word from UFC yet, although Variety reported that the UFC will be announcing more details shortly.

McGregor issued this X post late yesterday:

’July 4th next year is a Saturday, regarding President Trumps (sic) UFC White House event. I will be reigning President of Ireland just under 1 year when I step out on the lawns of the White House to throw down. Epic proportions! Or as I like to call it, Tuesday at the office. Vote McGregor.’

McGregor has said on numerous occasions he is running for the President’s office in Ireland.

Hasn’t Fought in 4 years

The chances of that happening are slim, according to reporting here. Plus, don’t forget McGregor is 36 and hasn’t fought in the Octagon since a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021, when he broke his leg. He was supposed to make his comeback against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 but had to pull out weeks before because of an injured toe. McGregor has lost three of his last four UFC fights.

Still, as the buzz for the event builds, if McGregor makes a serious UFC comeback, betting would be off the charts.

Mark Collier, a trader with BetVictor, told Grandrushonline.com yesterday it’s tough to peg betting interest on an event like this because nothing of this kind has ever been done.

‘Hard to gauge really,’ he said. ‘Not sure we’ve had such an unorthodox sort of venue before or even something remotely comparable. Personally, with the variables involved such as Donald Trump, outside set up and most crucially, bouts likely to be PPV level then surely we would expect above average business.’

There’s also news this morning that heavyweight Jon Jones has entered the UFC drug testing program just a few weeks after announcing his retirement. That’s what he is saying anyway. Jones relinquished the heavyweight title, now held by Tom Aspinall.

Jones, 37, is considered one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time. He’s also an avowed Trump fan. A comeback heavyweight fight featuring Jones on the White House lawn would be a mega-smash on the betting volume front.
